The Spectral DMC-20 is in that very small class of truly great solid state preamps. A two-piece preamp with a separate power supply connected to the preamp via an umbilical cord, this version is fully equipped with phono stage as well as true balanced in/out modules. Comes with 7 inputs and 4 outputs (normal, inverted, balanced, and tape), and a front panel phase switch.

The DMC-20 is a model of flexibility to suit any system. The phono stage has a wide range of adjustments. Gain is selectable between 30, 38, and 45 dB, affording compatibility with a wide range of high and low output cartridges; in addition, phono impedance may be switched between 10, 20, 100, 800, and 47k Ohms. Each line stage input has adjustable gain (0 to -20 dB), so that various sources of differing voltage outputs may be gain-matched. Line stage gain is 29 dB (unbalanced) or 35 dB (balanced). Technically, this is still a state-of-the-art preamp.

As pictured, the original metal top plates have been replaced with Spectral clear top plates, as recommended by Bob Crump and Demian Martin (one original metal top plate will also be shipped, in case the new owner wishes to add shielding in a noisy environment). The power supply has a standard IEC power inlet; no power cord will come with this unit, as a high quality cord should be used for maximum performance. I have an MIT Shotgun AC-1 that I have been using on the DMC-20 that, if desired, I will sell for $225 with the preamp.

The pre is operationally perfect, and sounds wonderful. I have graded it conservatively as "Good" because there are some small marks on the chassis, as well as a 1/2" scratch at the rear of the PS top plate; the price has been adjusted accordingly. I do not have the original box; it will be packed with fanatical attention. Spectral recommends use of MIT/Spectral cabling; I will also be listing the appropriate Spectral cables in the interconnect and speaker cable sections.
