Reluctantly selling one of my vintage Altec speaker projects. They sound incredible folks! The sale consists of:- Altec 806a 16 ohm high frequency compression drivers in beautiful condition (with original Altec diaphragms also in excellent condition)- Altec 32a metal horns with mounting bolts and gaskets(also in good condition with minor blemishes)- Altec 414z 16ohm 12" driver pair (both in excellent condition)-One pair of Jean Hiraga inspired crossover networks built by Pete Riggle(to be discribed)- Approx 7.5 meters of the Dueland Coherent Audio DCA16GA tinned copper hook up wire that ties it all together (a wonderful impact on the overall sound) and finally... the cabinets for the 414z which I'm basically just throwing in for free. The cabinets were built as a rough draft and should be consider unfinished. They measure 21x24.5x16" and have a 2x6" bass reflex port. The cabinets are sturdy, just the right size for the 414z, and have good solid potential as far as refinishing goes. They are also insulated with the good yellow board stuff.Together, this combination of vintage Altec drivers sounds incredible as you Altec guys can imagine. The 414z produces some of the most refined and lifelike midrange I've ever heard and can still do deep well defined bass, in these cabinets, with this crossover, in my 18x24x10 listening space. No sub required for my listening preferences. The 806a are now classic audio equipment, made famous by the likes of Art Dudley and his Listening column for Stereophile mag, as well as the wonderful Altec Valencia 846a themselves, of which these drivers were original compliment. The 806a are top shelf high frequency drivers that are alive with humanity. If reproduction of the human voice is important to you, these will win your heart. Within the range they operate, the 806a are some of the most refined and musical of their type ever built IMHO. The crossover networks have utilized Sprague and Sangano PIO caps, Ohmite resistors, modern inductors, and the wirewound potentiometer allows for control of the high frequency energy. This obviously implemented in order give the listener the ability to tune the sound of the horn to your listening space. Networks were designed by the great audiophile and Altec speaker enthusiast/designer Mr. Jean Hiraga(google search) and built by Mr Pete Riggle. Overall, these gems sound great with all types of music and are super efficient.. so easy to drive with any low watt tube amp. Revealing of upstream components... they sounded great with my vintage Mcintosh and modern Almarro equipment used, providing effortless sound that fills the room. These are sure to impress with energetic, lifelike, musical sound. I hate to see them go, but it's time to move onto my next Altec speaker project.
