Up for sale, a superb Audible Illusions L1 tube line preamplifier. Excellent sound and built in US. AI preamps are as good as people say. The face looks good, has no scratches or nicks on knobs. External power supply. This L1 version has no phono section, in fact it is a similar circuit to the AI M3A preamp but with a headphone section instead of phono.
Very clean overall appearance. Some fading on the On/Off switch lettering. Everything shows in photos.All electrolytic capacitors were replaced, in both the preamp and the power supply. Used very good quality caps. Also the output capacitors were replaced with good film Theta Audiocaps. The headphone section is not right, is unlistenable because of a buzz, but since I never use headphones I never repaired it. There is also a slight hum or buzz in one channel that remains. It was never that noticeable to me. Summary: - An excellent sounding preamp with all music thru line inputs. - Recapped thoroughly (The only caps not replaced are the tube cathode caps that have the option of being switched off - explained in manual.) Original small-value film caps remain. - Solid construction. - Good Soviet 6N23P-EV tubes, 6922-type. Test strong. - 6 line RCA inputs plus tape input, 2 outputs. - Any IEC power cord will work (not included). - No phono. - Non-inverting design means you reverse your speaker cables (explained in manual.) - Currently has unusable headphone section. I have really enjoyed using this preamp. If you're listening to an average SS preamp you will be amazed at the improvement in warm, clear sonics. Possibly someone with more experience and o-scope can solve the minor circuit noise problem.
