For sale is a pair of large Push-Pull output transformers. I'm not certain of the manufacturer. They don't appear to be Hammonds and the only markings on them are "6W65". They appear similar to the later model Peerless transformers, but then there were lots of output transformer fabricators decades ago (Thordarson, Halladorson, Stancor etc...), so it could be one of them as well. They have PVC coated wiring vs cloth and I would put them as fabricated in the 60's to early 1970's. They came from a DIY amp that I was told was around 40 years old when I purchased it a few years back. The chassis was very utilitarian (i.e. not aesthetic) and the transformer set was too nice to not have it in a pretty chassis and as such I planned on rebuilding it (I removed the transformers and gave away the chassis). But, that was a few years ago and I realize it's not going to happen in a reasonable timeframe so I'm selling these bad boys.

Now with the backstory on them (as limited as it is) I'm assuming the "6" on the "6W65" stands for 6k Plate to Plate impedance. I tested both of them with a variac and 60hz and came closer to 5K P-P, but their inductance would push the impedance value up at higher frequencies. I'm not an electrical engineer, but understand they typically measure the impedance at 1Khz which would reasonably explain the delta between what I measured and 6K.

I don't think it would be too bold of an assumption to assume the "65" is watts. I've handled 65 watt Edcor transformers and they were almost identical in size if not slightly smaller. Regardless, you could make a very healthy push pull amp with these transformers (should be able to easily handle anything an EL34 could throw at them even in class A).

Now to the bad, they have some superficial rust on them. It's minor, enough in fact that you could paint directly over them with something like a hammertone, but whatever amp one would build with these certainly deserves top notch aesthetics, so repainting is de rigueur IMHO.

The other downside is that the leads on one of them are fairly short (as pictured). You'll just need to splice in a section of wire (heatshrink protected of course) and you're good to go.

Oh yes, they have dual outputs that appear to be 4 and 8 ohm according to impedance testing. They sadly don't have ultra-linear taps
