For Sale: A pair of Elma 04A2A00 24-pole Elma Dual-mono volume attenuators,
populated with premium Japanese Takman Rex carbon-film 1/2watt resistors on the front decks, and premium Japanese Shinkoh Tantalum 1/2watt resistors on the rear decks. They were used in a custom designed dual-mono (the best) passive preamp which allowed the listener to switch between a detailed sounding (30k) Takman Rex carbon-film stepped attenuator, or the seductive sounds of the lush premium Shinkoh Tantalum resistors (40k). Note that both the 30k and 40k impedance's are perfect for either solid-state or tubed amplification. Also note that both Takman and Shinkoh custom tapers are NOT a typical "audio-taper" where most of the attenuation happens in an area between approx. a 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock position on the volume dials. Instead, this custom taper in these attenuators allow for a much smoother increase in volume through-out the full rotation of the volume dial. This gives the listener a very precise volume setting feel throughout the dial, far more accurate than the typical "stacked-up at noon position" of an audio taper. Just add a chassis, a few pairs of premium RCAs, and one or two mini DPDT switches for a custom-designed premium passive preamp. People who think a resistor is only a resistor have definitely not listened to a switchable attenuator, where at the flip of a switch, you can hear the many differences between these two premium resistor groups.........
