I'm selling my demo version of Allen Wright's (Vacuum State) most ambitious digital modification.The stock DV50 itself was already a first rate Universal Player (CD, SACD, DVD-A, et al.) With Allen's modification, the DV50 becomes "State of the Art" digital, easily surpassing ANY of the other more recent Esoteric combos. This player performs at the level of +US$20.000 players. I have compared it to the Meitner (EMM Labs) SACD, the most recent Remyo combo (Harmonix) and to several very sophisticated computer based systems; the modded DV50 was the clear winner in all tests but one, where things were at the same level of dynamics, detail and musicality. CD and SACD playback through this player is something that needs to be heard to be believed. As shown by the pictures, the modification consisted of a completely new output section (the whole board is made by VS), their newest Terra Firma clock with a custom made interface, and a complete re-wiring of the AC section with the best copper ribbons available. It is a vastly more extensive modification than the famous ones made by Allen on different Sony SACD players (see the Vacuum State site under "SACD upgrades." A lot of information about Allen's mods can be found on the Audio Asylum forum). Also, this mod MUST NOT be confounded with the ones offered by Reference Audio, ASI and ModWright. The transformer on the unit is 230V, but if needed I can order and change the transformer for a 110V unit (original from the TEAC factory) for an extra US$250. Price of the stock DV50 was around US$6000 and the Vacuum State modification cost US$3000.
