Jim McShane Harmon Kardon Citation V 6L6 tube amp, completely restored, Cosmetics, very good..

Plug and Play! don't waste your time with basement finds and expensive repairs that are not as reliable or as nice sounding as the reputable McShane kits. Almost all internal components are replaced with high quality parts, no cheap stuff..

I restored two of these amps, and was going to run them as mono -blocks, but after setting them up in my small room I soon realized this was way over-kill. You only need one of these amps, it absolutely thrashes, don't let the small chassis fool you, it's a monster..

Fully restored Citation V with McShane kits and a few more upgrades.. These amps will simply out perform any other vintage 6L6 you can compare them to, when I say out perform, I mean "Rock and Roll", the restored McShane Citation V's bench almost 50W per ch. Verses the stock 40.. when talking tubes, that's some great power.. Restored, this amp will walk the much venerated Citation II, it's faster, punchier than the II and for that matter most of the other amps in or near it's class.

These amps have an unmistakable characteristic: a remarkable "burst" when you turn the dial past 9:00, the harder you push them, the tighter and clearer they sound, so for "Rock", I prefer these amps over any thing I have owned or heard. There is an added capacitance upgrade in the feed back loop with the McShane mods that really allows for a serious kick when you drive it hard..

If you have never heard these amps and are chasing down a Citation II, you won't be disappointed, especially if you listen to rock, blues, or jazz.. This amp is a bit more ruthless than the Scott LK 150, Marantz 8b, MC 275 or Citation II, using the world famous "mullard circuit" design. The draw back... bad recordings will sound bad.. Good ones will be replayed with accuracy. Unlike most tube amps these are "fast," and, tight, especially at higher volumes.. At lower volumes they sound more like a traditional tube amp..

Some added history, and provenance, there is a studio ID number engraved in the side of the chassis, it breaches the paint layer.. This amp was one of the play back amps in the studio of legendary recording engineer, Kearney Barton.. read here for the history..http://www.historylink.org/index.cfm?DisplayPage=output.cfm&file_id=8719

I purchased this unit from the estate clearing house that got all the studio gear after his passing..
