This is an excellent example of the legendary Heathkit AA-1640 Power Amplifier, nicknamed the "Superamp". This is just the ticket for powering those hard to drive JBL, Thiel or KEF speakers. This unit will make your planar or ribbon speakers from Apogee or Magnepan really sing. This unit was built from kit by a former audio engineer for one of the local TV stations, and it was built to perform and to last. I have powered on and tested the unit. All lights, knobs and meters work as specified. This amp simply looks and sounds great.This amp was designed to deliver 200 Wpc into an 8 Ohm load, 400 Wpc into 4 Ohms and 800 Wpc in Bridged/Mono mode. This particular amp tests out at 260W into 8 Ohms. Damping factor is simply listed as "> 50". Dimensions are 19 x 18 x 7-1/4 in., and the unit weighs approx. 60 lbs. This amp is about as clean as the come. I have conservatively rated it 7/10 for age only.
