The Music Reference RM-9 Mark2 amplifier that put Roger Modejsky of Music Reference on the map. Arguably, one of the best High Power tube amps ever designed. He makes these only custom now, if at all, and the price is close to $5,000. The last selling price of this retail in 2002 was $3,400. It has not been made since because of the high cost to make the OPTs. I believe Roger hand-winds them.

The Amp is in good-fair condition. I will dig up the cage and take other pics. Meanwhile, see those pictures attached. The amp will not be sold with tubes.

The amp is VERY, VERY responsive to both rolling the two front E88CC and also the power tubes. It takes EL34/6550/KT88/KT90/KT100. I have tried them all and each has their charms. Me, I am an EL34 guy--or was. Now I am 2A3 and PPP Triode.

>>>>>Here is the deal:

1) The amp developed a hum (120Hz, I believe) and power filter caps were replaced, and some touch up soldering was done on input pins of drivers and grounding was fortified. Two highly competent techs locally did the work and checked out the work (cross-checked each others work--without knowing). This was done a bit over 3 years ago. This amp is not dead quiet, ever, but with my 90DB speakers, you hear only tube hiss with ear up to the mids/tweeter. So, for 125W/CH tube amp, its quiet--but you would not use this on horns, of course not.

2) the amp ran beautifully for 3 years after; not a hiccup. Whomsoever heard this on my Von Schweikert VRA-VS3.5 felt it was as good a sound as they ever had heard, with respect to cost of setup. Great bass, perfect CJ-like mids, and great extension with no glare. Just fabulous warm-neutral sound. Ultra-wide lateral stage and great depth. The dound is totally detached from the speakers, with vocals DEAD CENTER and at right height. Just fabulous. 125W per channel.

3) It has recently developed the same hum on one channel. I no longer have access to the tube guru's I had in the past. I also now am into low power SET and HE Speakers.

4) I guarantee the power and outputs are 100% A-OK. POSSIBLY AMONG THE FINEST TRANSFORMERS EVER MADE, ESPECIALLY THE OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS. ALSO, THE AMP BIASES FINE ON THE POWER TUBES, BUT THE FRONT SIGNAL TUBES WILL NOT BALANCE. I believe this is causing the hum on one channel.

5) THIS IS BEING SOLD AS-IS--NO RETURN. FOR REPAIR OR PARTS. If you are handy with repairs, it may be a quick fix for you, or not. At worst case, the iron is in excellent condition, never over-driven, and all checked out 100% fine by two techs with scopes. The wood base of amp and tube cage are in good used condition. I will post more pictures later, if there is interest.

6) Am selling without tubes. If you need tubes, I have an Octet of matched old SED (crica 1996-2000) that are 100% balanced and matched, but test at 80% (min is 60%). So, they have around 1/2 life left. The gettering is mostly gone, but they sound excellent, no noise at all. I'll also include some Russian E88CC that are actually quite good. We can work out a fair price for the tubes. The old SED are held in higher regard than the GE6550. We will work out a fair price for a buyer for the tubes--if the buyer needs such tubes.

7) Shipping in buyer. PP is 3.5%. Selling as is, no returns. I have over 1,000 positive transactions at all the usual places--never a negative rating.

8) I usually allow returns, because that is only fair, and this is a hobby for me. Because of the weight of this amp (ca. 70 lb packed--most of that weight is the iron), and the hassle of returns, and I have been 100% honest in describing the present condition, there are no return--sold as is.

If you fix this (say replace some components having to do with driver tube balance), you will have a legendary EL34 amp. If not, you will have a legendary pair of Output Transformers, and outstanding power transformer, and a base to work from; or start with a new base/case and re-purpose the iron.

Thank You.
