BTW, Scott, your messages bounced. I could not reply. These are custom X-LS Encores built by an ace speaker builder who simply overbuilt them to find out just how far he could take the XL-S Encores using superior crossover parts, platinum bypass caps, no rez and more.
BTW, a version of this speaker [NOT as maxed out] won a small speaker shootout held a few years ago for "Best monitor under $1,000."
That speaker is known as the XLS NINJA and was PREFERRED BY ALL 5 audio panelists beating out speakers by Outlaw, Silverline, Role, Hyperion, Unity Audio, LSA, GINI LS3, Epos and others.
http://www.stereomojo.com/Small%20Speaker%20Shootout%202007/SmallSpeakerShootoutPart2.htm AT THIS PRICE YOU'RE BUYING THEM FOR LESS THAN THE COST OF THE PARTS! I am willing to ship and know how to pack properly.
Will split shipping cost. IMHO, I think these are great speakers and built to the max by an expert builder well known on another forum. I put these in my main system and was totally surprised how great they sounded. While the bass is excellent, out of curiosity I added in a sub-woofer and these things could really rock and sound very full with a great clarity and excellent soundstage. Don't just take my word for it, read up n the Ninja. The only reason for considering a sale is that I have the opportunity to obtain a top notch large full range speaker and I simply don't have room for everything; otherwise I'd keep them. SEE BELOW FOR SPECIAL OFFER. Following info. is from the original speaker builder: Fully coated with NO Rez on inside
Complete customized crossover using exceptional parts
upgraded wire
point to point wired with bypass caps
Erse coils
Jantzen Superior Caps
Mills resistors
Crossover parts total almost $300
Kit cost appx. $260
NO Rez $30 He stated "the imaging and sound stage is wonderful...totally open and full."
I would agree. And, upon upgrading the external speaker wire, I found the bass opened up very nicely. The vocals/midrange is excellent.
These are about a year old. There's almost $600 in parts cost into these speakers. $395.
Will upload more pix when time allows.
The finish is carbon mist, basically a variant of black. BTW, the builder also commented on the crossover in the forum: "I put platinum bypass caps on the encore xls kit I got from Danny this past week. I can hear a very strong difference in the speed and presentation. I actually tried them on the basic board xo s and i took those out and put in a point to point xo with all upgraded parts. In both cases there was more than a JND. I know that the parts cost more than the kit, but I wanted to see what would happen just for the giggles. Did I pay more than the kit, yep, do i care, nope. I learned something. Suped up xo and it is much more detailed and sound stage is huge." SPECIAL OFFER Okay, frankly, these monitors sound great on their own and the bass is quite strong. But, if you really want to rock out OR get the last part of the bass, then I will offer to sell these in combination with a top notch
SVS subwoofer and plate amp for a combo price of $695. You're basically getting over $1600 in gear for less than half price. [see separate ad for the SVS + plate amp]. I'm only doing this to accommodate a exceptional deal that was offered to me on a pair of used full range speakers. Will ship or drive up to 90 minutes to meet with you. FWIW, I've owned Green Mountain Callistos. While the Callistos had a SLIGHTLY better image but a very limited sweet spot. THESE monitors have better bass and clearer highs. Parts matter in crossovers. Pix will upload later this week. Estimated shipping FDX conus is $35 to $65 [East Coast vs West Coast].
I am offering to pay half the shipping at the price of $395. Thanks.
