The need to pay some bills, has forced me to list one of my favorite audio toys for sale. For sale: Thorens TD 124 MKII in very nice cosmetic and functional shape. I'm including the tonearm that came with it, an SME 3009 S.2 (not improved), as I think that this classic combo deserves to stick together. Also included in the sale is a very nice birch-ply plinth with oak top plate, which represented a significant improvement in noise & resonance reduction over the simple stock base that the table came with (looks much prettier too). I liked the look of it as natural, but it could easily be painted any color to taste. Also included in the sale are the following: -An extra idler wheel for the 124 in nice shape.
-A gold "Thorens" badge for added looks to the finished unit.
-An extra SME drilled armboard (comes with the original, black painted one and a nice brown, professionally stained one. Sorry, not sure of the wood types for either).
-Original manuals for both ttable and arm in nice shape.
-Comes with standard 3009 counterweight, 2-piece rider weight pieces, standard bias line & weight, plus a heavier bias line & weight for possible mounting of heavier carts (though you may need a heavier counterweight for this).
-Original SME/Shure headshell.
-SME Alignment Protractor Card & extra SME arm base sticker.
-Table has replacement rubber "mushrooms" and motor mount grommets in place. I would rate the 124 as a solid 8/10 cosmetically and in pretty much, faultless shape for it's age cosmetically. The strobe, clutch work as they should and after a bit of warm-up time, it holds its speed reasonably well. The arm is in nice shape for it's age, bearings and play have no issues, though it could use a new rubber coupling piece for the back, arm extension stub. I have a touch of low tack adhesive on the coupling now.. just to make sure it's fixed in place where it should be. Based on this and a few tiny imperfections on the arm tube, i'd rate it a conservative 7/10. The arm does not come with cables. I had an SME RCA, female connector put on the base (in place of the original din connector) to make it easy to try and use upgraded, audiophile cables. I do not want to pack and ship this unit and this sale will be available only to those I meet up with on the US, East Coast, preferably, in the New York area (I live in Northern, NJ). I'd be happy to drive a few miles to make sure of a safe delivery if necessary. PayPal is not preferred, but workable if the buyer is willing to cover the 3% PP fees. With the preferred, medium mass 3009 S.2, beautiful plinth, extra parts and cosmetic quality of the turntable, I think it's priced at a very fair level. Lowballers and folks asking for me to pack and ship the unit will be politely ignored. Thanks for looking! (Small note: I don't know why my Asylum Trader FB says "unrated". I've bought and sold a handful of things over the years here and never had an issue. You can also look at my perfect FB ratings on both AG & eBay. Under "marchomeslice" & "marc-homeslice" respectively).
