I have for sale a pair of the fabulous, world-class Cogent DS-1428 field coil compression drivers. These are, according to many horn experts, the best midrange compression drivers ever built by man. I certainly concur. A pair of them was at the heart of the finest audio system I ever heard, at any price, at RMAF 2006.

I bought these not long ago, locally. I simply had to buy them to experience the sound. After using them with 80 Hz folded bass horns, I have experienced the pinnacle of the hobby, and am now downsizing, majorly.

The drivers include a pair of 300 Hz custom-made conical horns in gorgeous rosewood. These horns were built by Cogent's horn-maker and are, I was told by Cogent, what they currently use. They are gorgeous and cannot be beaten in a midrange horn, by any other material, horn flare, or other technology. (Conical horns have NO - ZERO - coloration.) The design of these horns comes from horn guru Bill Woods.

Note that there is a metal insert that mates the wooden horn throat to the driver opening completely smoothly.

At around 110 dB/W, compression-driver midrange horns, that also take the room almost completely out - you get all direct instead of reflected sound - are capable of revealing nuances in music like *nothing* else. The field-coil technology takes this even further, as this magnet technology allows a driver to respond to the tiniest nuances with vanishingly low distortion.

Included also are stands that allow for tilt (by moving the support fore or aft) and a pair of DC power supplies.

These can be shipped pretty easily: I have the original wood crates for the horns. They are extremely sturdy, running about 40 lb empty. The drivers are very beefy, about 40 lb each, and will be professionally packed by UPS. So, four boxes total.

If you have the room and the wherewithal, these drivers & horns can be the basis of audio system that will meet or exceed *anything* at *any* price. I can say that with complete honesty!

Tweeters are possible, but not required. The drivers have very good output up to 12 Khz or so and can be EQed higher than that if desired. I can hear cleanly to 18 Khz but find nothing at all missing via these horns.

I do have a nice pair of 80 Hz mid-bass horns with drivers available to a buyer as well if desired. They do not match the horns aesthetically, but could re-veneered or used on a temporary basis - or long-term if one doesn't mind rosewood on red oak!

If you are reading this ad be aware that you may NEVER get a chance to buy a pair of Cogent field-coil drivers used again! These are rare as they are very expensive ($15,000 for the drivers) and very few owners sell.

If the why-selling wasn't clear enough: my audio system is in the living room, which isn't quite cut out for this, I have three little kids, and I do need to step back from the hobby for a bit. For someone who wants to go all-out, these are the ticket.

PayPal adds 3% if used. Buyer pays actual packing (for the drivers) and shipping costs.
