The legendary B&W Matrix 801 S3. Used in recording studios the world over for their absolute fidelity to the truth. These speakers are big, bold and stunningly beautiful!
This pair is in the gorgeous Walnut finish which looks spectacular. Very well cared for by a meticulous audiophile who is moving overseas and chose to sell these rather than store them in this Florida climate which would surely ruin them.I have been running them in my very small listening room to surprisingly good effect. The sound is real. I have used them on large granite slabs as well as on the floor using the spikes and the casters. I find no need for aftermarket stands for these speakers. I am getting good solid bass in line with the entire musical spectrum. I think the stands were initially a hit because they were seen in the photos of the 801's in recording studios so everybody had to have them. As a matter of fact an email from the Product Manager to the previous owner explained that the need for the stands as well as the outboard bass alignment filter turned out to be unnecessary. They eventually ceased production of the equalizer as a result.
The sonic condition is excellent and the physical cosmetic condition is also excellent. I noticed a couple very, very small marks on the cabinets....not scratches or gouges, just marks from being bumped perhaps? The drivers and binding posts are in excellent condition. Matrix 801 s3
