The day has come to part with my Denon MD5000s that were modded when they were brand new by Mark Lawton including the angled pads. These phones are about 4 and 1/2 years old and have seen sporadic use during that time (I go through phases where I do not listen to headphones for long stretches). They do have some issues: First there are some slight scratches and scuffs on the wood cups (the photos actually make them look worse than they do in person). Second the cord has frayed in just a few places especially near the jack, which you can also see in the photos and it has exposed the white inner covering (most of this fraying occurred one time when the phones were in my trunk and the cable was rubbing against the edge of the box they were in. It has not gotten any worse since then). While using the phones, I covered the frayed places with some electrical tape to stop it from getting worse, but I took the tape off for the pictures. None of these concerns affect the sound, and they sound as wonderful as these phones are known to be. Pads and the headband are in good shape. I do not have the original box, but I will pack them well. This model has been discontinued and some used versions without the mod are selling for $550-800 (Original list price was $699). The modifications already done to this pair cost $200 on Mark Lawton's website: http://www.lawtonaudio.com/.
Price is $495 including shipping in the USA and paypal fees. Check with me for international shipping cost. This is an inexpensive way to try out a high end sound that MarkL liked better than his Sony R10 headphones back when he first developed the mod. Note that I have 100% positive feedback on Ebay and Audiogon.
