Here is the great, vintage stereo tube integrated amplifier; The Voice of Music 1448. It was built in the early 1960's and has a very strong cult following. This amplifier is in good condition for it's age. You rarely see these for sale as people hold onto them after they hear them. This little gem is stunning and will paste many famous amps many times it's price. It is a very smooth sounding unit with good bass, to die for mids, and extended highs. One audiophile on this forum called the 1448 the best sleeper audio component ever produced. They don't fly under the radar any more as the secret is out.
This amp uses 6AQ5 tubes, a miniature 7 pin design. You can find 6AQ5 tubes or find equivalent tubes for little cost. The inputs are aux, tuner, tape, and phono. The phono is the older ceramic type; I think you have to use a pre-preamp to amplify a magnetic phono for this amp. I tried an Shure cartridge and it produced an audible yet low volume.Front panel controls include bass, treble, selector, mono/stereo and volume. There is a "tone-o-matic" circuit that enhances the bass as the volume advances; this has been removed. The sound is cleaner without it. But, it could easily be restored if one desired.
Again, this amp and case, while not museum condition, is very good for the age. The only non-functioning part I am aware of is the pilot light for power on is out. I was told the previous owner recapped the amp with high quality parts; I have not verified this nor have I checked the life of the tubes.
This amp can drive electrostatic speakers; it sounds fabulous on Quad 57's. I can safely say this amp produces music that will knock your socks off and literally shock those that hear it.
I had this on ebay a while back, and had about 60 watchers, but I was reluctant to sell it and closed the listing.
Could someone please buy this amp before I change my mind again!
