For sale is a very unique Type 10 Single Ended Triode tube amplifier. Type 10 amps don't come up for sale very often, and in fact it’s been years since I saw the last one for sale (and it was this one).

This amplifier started life as a Tube Audio Labs creation, and I’m the second owner. A year or so ago, I sent this amp to Oliver Sayes, a renowned SET amp builder, and Oliver updated the amplifier in a few ways, one of which was with Rod Coleman filament regulators to get the most out of the output tubes, which require a very clean and stable power supply to perform at their best.

This is one of the best sounding single ended amps I’ve owned so far, and I’ve owned quite a few now. The 10 tube has a very open, clear and crisp sound that is all its own. This amplifier is capable of in the room dynamics that will blow your socks off. If the buyer decides to upgrade later to a pair of the 1920’s globe-shaped UX210/CX310 tubes with their thoriated tungsten filament, this becomes a nearly penultimate single ended amplifier. The Coleman filament regulators allow this amp to breathe and expand in a way that is really something special. Putting out around 1.5 watts per channel, this does demand efficient speakers. But if you are seriously looking at this amplifier I think you know about that already.

This sale includes a pair of 1960’s Hytron 801a tubes, a higher output military grade transmitting tube that is the highest spec for the 10 tube type. The driver tubes are a nice pair of 1950’s Hytron 6SN7 (one is labeled Emerson but both are the same Hytron manufacture) as well as a superb quality 1940’s GE 5R4 rectifier tube. These are all very good quality tubes, this amp deserves to have the best tubes, and while these things can always be upgraded this tube set is already in the top 10% of what it could be. The transformers on this amplifier are custom wound by Electra-Print and are of the highest quality.

More photos with various tube combinations and additional info and listening impressions can be found at my hifi website here:

This one has a few small cosmetic issues that need to be acknowledged; one output transformer is bent slightly at an angle, as can be seen in the photos. It’s been this way since before I received it and has no effect on anything. The Coleman regulators barely fit in this low profile amp, and as a result they protrude slightly out of the amp’s bottom plate. There are two holes in the top plate that used to house hum pots, which were removed when the Coleman regulators were installed (the amp does not hum and is very quiet in operation). Otherwise the build is industrial clean but not fancy.

I’m selling this one quite reluctantly, after a lot of soul-searching based only on the need to fund another much more expensive audio purchase. If I could afford to keep this amplifier it would never be listed for sale.

As always, questions welcomed and thanks for looking.
