FOR SALE: Victor TT-101 direct drive phono motor. This was Victor's top consumer market TT in the late 1970s, until the TT-801 came along in 1981. It was sold motor-only for 150,000 yen (the same price as the Technics SP-10Mk2 motor-only). Victor used a double bi-directional servo technology which makes this table among the most speed-stable of tables out there. The motor used a coreless DC motor in order to avoid cogging. It also had a specially-wound low vibration and low-leakage toroidal transformer. It used a slotted motor like the Technics motors but with 50% more slots to reduce cogging/hunting. The "bi-directional servo" part means that it uses the motor both to speed up microscopically and to not overshoot when it does. This motor deserves a heavy plinth, and I imagine slate would work well. For some particular reason, I know a few people who have run top Victor motors in heavy metal block-type plinths. The TT shows the current speed on the display (33.33rpm or 45rpm in standard mode). The display light is strong (better than pic suggests because of back-flash). The TT also features the ability to raise or lower speed by 6Hz in 1Hz increments. This was unique at the time. The display is refreshed every two seconds. This comes with the original Victor platter mat, mounting bolts, and I have included platter lift-screws. The service manual is available on the Vinyl Engine. PRICE: $1200 WORKING CONDITION: It is in fine working condition. I have used it, and just before posting this, I ran it in again for 24hrs in another plinth in place of my other Victor motor. It ran with the Denon which is posted, and records alternated. Speeds start up very quickly, and change quickly, and in each case, land on the desired speed quite quickly. The brake works quite well. COSMETIC CONDITION: The motor bezel is in very pretty condition, as is the platter bezel. It is in about as good condition as one could hope for. It has slight signs of age which I have tried to emphasize in close-up photos, but for anyone looking at it from a foot away in normal light, it will be spotless. OTHER: This TT is 100V and 50/60Hz. Power consumption is on the order of 15-20W I expect so a 100W step-down transformer should work fine (I can supply one for US, European or Asian usage for ~$40, depending on region/power capacity). SHIPPING: This TT weighs about 10kg by itself. packing materials should come in about 2kg-3.5kg depending on whether double-boxing is desired. I would prefer to double-box it. By EMS (4 days), it will cost JPY 17,500 (~$185) including insurance. By SAL (2wks), it would cost JPY 15,260 ($170) including insurance. By surface, it would cost 8,410 yen (~$93) and take 4-8 weeks. PAYMENT: Payment possible by Paypal (in yen, at then-current dollar/yen mid-rate) plus 4%, wire transfer in yen or USD (can arrange euros), postal money order in yen, Moneygram (please add 1%). Questions welcome by email, and I can call to discuss as well (though keep in mind I am on E.S.T +13hrs). Higher-res pics available on request. This is Japanese DD table #7 of many to come.
