GROUP OF THIRTY (30) 46 ST VACUUM TUBES (MOST NOS AND DOUBLE TESTED)

PLEASE READ THIS AD CAREFULLY AND IN ITS ENTIRETY! The ad is very long and contains a lot of information.

$1000 for the group.

Shipping and Paypal fee are extra (see below for terms and conditions).

No splitting up at this time, although I may be able to take a little trade (see below).

Additional terms and conditions are provided below.

In addition to the 46s listed here, I do have some 46 globe, NOS Raytheon 4-Pillar, a few other 46 ST and some 45A that I might be willing to part with for the right price. I also have several regular 45 ST that I am more flexible on. If interested, please inquire.

LIST AND TEST RESULTS

All tubes in this listing are 46 ST. There are various brands and types.

The 46 tube has become popular as a substitute for the 45. By using a 5-to-4 pin adapter that ties the second grid (pin 4) to the plate (pin 2), you get a triode with similar properties to the 45. The 46 was actually designed for this, and this option shows up in the data sheets. The only limitation in this respect that I am aware of is that the triode-strapped 46 has a plate voltage maximum spec of 250V, while the 45 has a max spec of 275V.

In fact, many people actually prefer the triode-strapped 46 to the 45.

The 46 is also supposed to make a good driver tube (with interstage transformer) for larger DHTs such as 211 and 300B.

I hoarded these at one point, and now it is time to thin the herd. It is unlikely that you will find another group like this any time in the near future.

The list and test results can be downloaded at the following link:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/5gj9jvdltgrygtq/46%20List.xlsx?dl=0

I first tested the tubes for transconductance (Gm) and current draw on my Westmore 501 (similar to Triplett 3444) connected to a regulated power supply. The Gm reject point on the Westmore is 1200 and average new is 2400.

While there is no Westmore spec for plate current, the settings on the Westmore indicate that the test parameters are 250 V plate and -32V grid bias. The Class A plate current spec at 250 V plate and -33 V grid bias is 22 mA.

I then tested most of the tubes on an Amplitrex AT-1000 connected to a regulated power supply. The tubes were tested in fixed bias mode, and the test cycle was run at least twice for each tube (better warmup time and stabilization).

On the AT-1000, the spec for “transconductance” (Gm) is 2.5 mA/V, and “emission” (current draw) is 34.0 mA.

The reported results are for the last test cycle for each tube.

Please note that I did not test some of the tubes (most of the Raytheon and the RCA Victor) on the Amplitrex as I did not want to break the seal and/or damage the boxes too much further. The 5-pin socket on the Amplitrex is set into the faceplate, and I do not have a proper 5-pin extender. Those tubes are noted in the list.

Also note that I do not fully understand all of the test parameters for the Amplitrex. I have not owned the unit for very long, and have a feeling that the installed parameters may not quite be right. I have the ability to adjust those parameters, but do not have enough experience yet to be confident that I am doing it correctly.

As a result, I would not consider the Amplitrex test results in an “absolute” sense, but rather use them for qualitative comparison with the Westmore results and against one another.

Finally, some of the brands like Associated and Radiocoin may represent “second quality” tubes, so appearance and/or test results may not look perfect. Notwithstanding, I do believe that at least the Associated tubes can still be considered NOS (not used).

All tubes will be individually wrapped in bubble wrap with a number corresponding to the list written on the bubble wrap.

I have never used these tubes, so I have no idea about sound. As a general rule, I am not a good one to ask as most tubes sound about the same to my ears. Either I like tube or I don’t, but I don’t always know why (and I can change on a daily basis).

I do not know the history of these tubes (they are all older than I am), but unless otherwise indicated in the list, I believe they are NOS (“new” old stock).

Some of the tubes may have writing or other marks on them, but that is just test results from prior owners.

I can provide additional information or pictures on request.

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE TUBES ARE BEING SOLD “AS IS, WHERE IS”.

ALL SALES ARE FINAL.

I ONLY describe what I know about the tubes, and what I have tested for. Although my tube testers tend to be reliable, YOUR TUBE TESTER MAY GIVE A DIFFERENT RESULT THAN MINE, so please take that into account. In the event of a tube tester conflict, MY TUBE TESTER CONTROLS.

If the information is not there, DO NOT ASSUME, and do not rely on any of YOUR assumptions. If you need more information than provided in the listing, ASK IN ADVANCE. If I happen to have the information, I will provide it. If I can get the information in a reasonable way, I will get it. If I do not call a tube NOS, consider that tube USED. I do the best I can with very limited time and capabilities. I am an honest seller, but I am NOT a tube professional, and I am NOT in the tube business.

AS SUCH, PLEASE NOTE THAT I CANNOT GUARANTEE (OR EVEN REMOTELY PREDICT) HOW THESE TUBES WILL SOUND OR PERFORM IN YOUR EQUIPMENT. THE TEST RESULTS ARE ONLY PROVIDED AS AN INDICATION OF TUBE PERFORMANCE IN A VERY LIMITED (AND NON-IDEAL) ENVIRONMENT. EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY INDICATED IN THIS LISTING, I DISCLAIM ANY AND ALL REPRESENTATIONS, WARRANTIES AND LIABILITY WITH RESPECT TO THESE TUBES, OR RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR USE OF THEM.

The buyer is responsible for all shipping charges (including but not limited to any customs fees, duties, import taxes and related charges).

Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail (domestic and international) unless an upgraded service is requested. Shipping weight will be approximately 10 pounds.

I WILL NOT FALSIFY INFORMATION ON A CUSTOMS FORM.

For all shipping, the terms are EXW US Post Office (INCOTERMS 2010). In accordance with these terms, I will deliver the lot into the possession of the US Post Office, and once in the possession of the US Post Office ALL RISK OF LOSS PASSES TO THE BUYER.

WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT I EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ANY AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR DELIVERY (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGE OR LOSS) BY ANY POSTAL SYSTEM, AND BY PURCHASING THIS LOT YOU EXPRESSLY WAIVE THE RIGHT TO FILE A CLAIM (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO BUYER PROTECTION CLAIMS WITH EBAY AND PAYPAL) FOR ANY SHIPPING RELATED ISSUE.

If, however, you have purchased insurance for the item, I will assist to the best of my ability in the processing of any legitimate insurance claim you desire to file. Cash is always welcome for a local transaction. Payment can also be via money order/cashier’s check/personal check preferred but, except for US Postal Money Orders, all must clear my bank first.

I also accept Paypal for convenience, but add 3% to use Paypal in the USA or 4% outside the USA. IF YOU PAY VIA PAYPAL, HOWEVER, A CONDITION OF YOUR PAYMENT IS THAT YOU EXPRESSLY WAIVE THE RIGHT TO FILE A PAYPAL CLAIM OR CHARGE BACK (but do retain the right to sue me in court should you so desire).

I need to get as much cash as possible, but I might consider some trade at the right value. I do not really need anything, but other vacuum tubes or an internal solid state drive (preferably 1TB or larger) may be of interest. Other things may catch my attention as well (especially at the right value), and it does not hurt to ask.

Please check my feedback on Ebay (ID=baileyler), and buy with confidence.
