Back in the late 1970s Arnie Nudell, then president of Infinity, decided that the original configuration of the QRS with a 15” Watkins driver was too slow to blend well with the ribbon/planar midrange drivers and tweeters. So, he built just a few with 16 ea. 5-1/4” drivers in the sub cabinets. The entire system, called the Infinity Quantum Reference consists of 40 EMIT tweeters, 6 EMIRM midrange, and 32 5-1/4” dynamic drivers. Short of an IRS V these are the best speakers bar none that Nudell ever made for Infinity. The soundstage is amazing, the tonal quality is to die for and leaves any and I mean practically any state of the art speaker as a toy. The Strathearns have a superb midrange and those EMITS are longer than the later ones with no shortcuts done in their engineering. They are as smooth as any tweeter ever made. Old audio collectors must know that the late Harry Pearson of the Absolute Sound considered this among the most natural speakers ever produced on the planet. Musical instruments sound as real as you could possibly hear whether you play vinyl or digital media. But this is not an ordinary set. In this system, all the drivers have been rewired with the best 6N Acrotec/Acrolink oxygen-free copper wire from Japan and Sidereal Caps in the crossovers all done by an expert Speaker rebuilder in Los Angeles. The speaker must be bi-amplified. For additional flexibility in the very high frequencies, the system includes a super ribbon tweeter (same as used on the Magnepan MG-20) for frequency response up to 40,000 hz. The super tweeter can be shut off at will or turn on with selectable high spots at 12Khz, 15Khz and 20Khz. The bass sections include a special Microscan Anti Resonance system for improving the bass performance which goes way down on this speaker to 23HZ. I have always preferred tubes for the top and solid state at the bottom. In terms of musicality, properly set-up and driven these speakers are capable of delivering a convincing musical event. These speakers separate into 3 sections: high and mid frequency panels (76"hx11"wx1"), sub cabinet(36"hx24"x24"), and image deflection panel wing (40"hx24"x1"). The system comes with the Infinity QRS Servo controller (also updates) as shown in the picture and all grill cloth covers for the woofer sections and the ribbon panels. practical way to do this. I do not want damaged risk with delicate drivers such as these.
Easily moved in a van or pickup truck since they can be disassembled. I live in Tampa, Florida. The only other possibility is to have them specially crated at buyer's expense. There is a very reputable company I know that have dealt with fragile equipment for years. This is the only other possibility. Let me know and I can quote you a rate. I have been the original owner of these bad boys for all these years and it has always been pampered in a dedicated music room built to my specifications. Relocating to smaller surroundings due to retirement.
