Quite a good 845 Class-A Single Ended Triode amplifier, made by Mr. Liang Audio (he is one of the founders of Shugang, and this is one of his "signature" products) using a 300b to drive the 845 output tube.While maybe not the same level as an $8,000 S.E.T., the output transformers and other parts used are high quality and this amplifier provides an excellent introduction to the S.E.T. sound. Very heavy construction - weight is over 100 LB. Capable of 22~25 watts per channel, so it will work with a good many speakers - not just super-high-efficiency horns. Has two selectable line-level audio inputs and a level control. Also has bias adjustment controls and meters to read the bias. Comes with tube cage, and two sets of 845 tubes - the original tubes and a pair of high-end matched Shugang 845's. Tubes and tube cage will be packed and shipped separately; this amp is heavy and will be properly packed for shipping. NOTE: I can ship via any method that the buyer prefers. Probably the best way would be freight - something like Old Dominion, which I have used before - using freight this amp would be crated and shipped on a pallet. This would be pretty expensive, maybe $350, maybe even more, but it would the best way to ensure the amp arrives undamaged. Think about it- you'd be getting a pretty darned good 20 watt S.E.T. for under $1,200.00... and I'd have more space in my apartment. (I sold my "box" speakers and now use Magnepan planar speakers that need way more power than this can provide-) I will also deliver for **FREE** in the metro Chicago area, or you can pick this up. Please note buyer will have to pay the ACTUAL shipping cost charged the shipping company and NOT the inaccurate shipping cost calculated by eBay. Shipping and insurance for both boxes - the amplifier in one box, the tubes and tube cage in a second box - will be about $200 to CONUS via FedEx or UPS. Note of caution- 845 tubes running in Class A (90 mA bias is suggested for the graphite plate tubes used in this amplifier) will run very hot in normal operation. The 845 tube has a very large filament which gets very hot and in class A the plates are dissipating a lot of heat; the glass envelope of an 845 tube operating properly can get to temperatures over 500° F. So it is suggested that you ALWAYS use the tube cage, keep the amp away from little kids and pets, and don't EVER touch a tube of any tube amplifier that is running or has been running recently. The principle by which tubes work involves HEAT, and big tubes produce BIG HEAT.
