See excellent reviews.The North Star Design USB DAC32 is a high quality Digital Analog Converter with a variety of connectivity options: 2x S / PDIF (Toslink 1x and 1x coaxial); 1x balanced AES / EBU; 1x USB and I2S connection. It has both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) outputs, analog outputs are balanced, also internally built really balanced. The digital receiver is the ultra low jitter Cirrus CS8416, upsampling is provided by 192/32 Cirrus CS8421 upsamplers and DACs are Texas Instruments PCM1795's 192/32. The 192 transport uses Philips' excellent CD-Pro2 drive. It's a top loader with a sliding drawer that opens manually from right to left, revealing its CD puck and tray. In addition to the usual S/PDIF RCA and XLR digital outputs, the 192 takes advantage of the CD-Pro2’s available I2S output via a standard RJ45 connector. $1850 for the combo ($6000 retail) + shipping.
