This is my
Mc240 that was rebuilt by Mike Samra 2.5
years ago and I'm selling it because I bought Magnepan speakers that need a lot of power And Mike worked his magic on a Mc275 for me.
The amp is in near mint condition with very good chrome,lettering and transformer paint. All the
rebuilds Mike does can be reversed and put back to original
style components with no damage because Mike doesn't
drill holes or cut up the chassis to mount the new and far
superior components used in the rebuild.
I can tell you that this amp sounds very much like
my Mc275 . It does power my inefficient Magnepan 1.7s,but it not a match made in heaven.
The rebuild consists of a McShane level 2 power
supply,along with four 35uf unilytic film cap bypasses.
The amp also has Schotky diodes,rebuilt bias supply
with film cap bypass,K40 paper in oil caps in the interim
stages and output along with Panasonic film and foils
and`and Rel multicaps in the input.
There are many new matched,low tolerance carbon film
resistors, and a nice buss bar ground that makes this amp
dead quiet.
This amp actually makes 52wpc with the Tungsol
6L6gs I'm including with the amp.along with Amperex,and RCA tubes with low hrs.as well as a quad of 6P3s'. The reason I love
Mike's and McShane's rebuilds are because they
don't change the signature Mcintosh sound,they simply
enhance and purify what is already there.
I'm asking what I feel is a fair price for
the condition and build in this amp so if I sell it fine,if
I don't no big deal.The rebuild alone was 1500.00. I have seen Mc240s in this
condition sell in the neighborhood of 2800 to 3200 dollars
and that is without this spectacular rebuild. It should be turn key,good to go for many years to come.
